Washed Top Dressing Sand

Processed to USGA specification parameters for greens, tees, and fairways. Tight, consistent gradation centred on 0.25mm — integrates into the rootzone without layering, drains predictably, and supports deep healthy root growth over successive applications.

Material specification
  • Gradation aligned to USGA top dressing parameters
  • Tight grain distribution — no layering risk in rootzone
  • Clay, silt, and organic matter removed during processing
  • Angular to sub-angular shape — stable under traffic and mowing
  • Identical gradation load to load — consistent seasonal programme
Primary applications
  • Putting greens
  • Tees and approaches
  • Fairway top dressing
  • Sports turf and stadium pitch maintenance
Variation in top dressing material between loads causes visible surface inconsistencies that no amount of maintenance will fully correct. Our gradation is processed to the same specification on every delivery.

What makes this product perform.

Expand each panel for the technical detail behind the specification.

  • Particle size and uniformity are fundamental to top dressing performance. Our sand is screened to a tight, consistent grain distribution that integrates smoothly into the existing rootzone without creating layering. Layering — caused by top dressing with a significantly different particle size to the underlying soil — disrupts capillary movement of water and impedes root development, leading to shallow rooting, dry spots, and inconsistent playing surfaces. Our gradation is processed to minimise this risk, supporting a homogeneous rootzone that drains predictably and encourages deep root growth over successive applications.

  • The material is free of clay, silt, organic matter, and other fine contaminants. In top dressing, purity is a functional requirement, not a cosmetic one. Clay and silt particles fill pore spaces within the rootzone, reducing infiltration rates and creating conditions for surface water retention, compaction, and anaerobic soil conditions. Over time, even modest contamination accumulates with repeated applications, progressively degrading the drainage and aeration characteristics that top dressing is intended to maintain. Each application contributes clean, structurally sound material rather than introducing problems requiring future remediation.

  • 03 — Surface trueness and load-to-load consistency

Angular to sub-angular grain shape provides stability and resistance to displacement under foot traffic and mowing, while consistent grading produces an even surface that responds predictably to rolling. For superintendents managing greens to competition standard, consistency from load to load removes a variable from an already demanding maintenance programme and allows confident scheduling of top dressing cycles throughout the season. Variation in top dressing material between loads causes visible inconsistencies across a green surface that are both aesthetically and competitively unacceptable.
