Clay that is built to hold.
A pond liner is only as good as the material it is built from. The clay forming the liner is the single most important variable in whether the finished pond holds water reliably over the long term — or slowly loses it to the surrounding ground. Hudson Aggregates produces engineered clay with the hydraulic and handling properties pond builders actually need.

Hydraulic Conductivity: What the Number Actually Means
Our engineered clay achieves less than 1 × 10⁻⁸ cm/s when compacted to specification. In practical terms — at that permeability, water movement through the liner is measured in millimetres per year under typical hydraulic head conditions. That is the difference between a water body that holds its level and one that requires constant topping up, or never fills to design level at all.
This is not a theoretical value from optimal lab conditions. It is the measured performance when compacted to densities achievable with standard earthworks plant on a typical pond construction site. And because our clay is processed to a defined specification rather than excavated as variable site-won material, that performance is repeatable across supply loads.

For pond builders who warranty their work, that consistency and the data supporting it is a material advantage.
Moisture Conditioning: Ready to Work
Anyone who has worked with clay in the field knows moisture content governs everything about how the material handles. Our engineered clay is supplied at a moisture content within the practical working range for pond lining — ready to place without field conditioning.
Too wet
Sticks to plant. Smears rather than compacts. Structurally unpredictable under load. Unmanageable on site.
Too dry
Difficult to mould. Cracks on drying. Will not achieve inter-particle bonding required for low permeability under compaction.
Hudson clay
Supplied at practical working range. Loads, transports, and tips cleanly. Shapes and compacts without additional water addition or on-site conditioning.
Material that is ready to place keeps your crew productive and your programme on track — no conditioning headaches before the first lift goes down.
Quantity. Consistency. Local.
Cement manufacturing is a continuous process industry. Hudson Aggregates operates within practical hauling distance of the Midlothian corridor — lower transport cost per tonne, shorter lead times, and a supply partner that responds to volume requirements as production schedules demand.
Our production capacity is structured for sustained, large-volume supply. This is not a marginal product offering — it is a core part of what Hudson produces and what we have built our operation to supply.
Midlothian corridor | Large-volume capacity | Continuous process supply | Local — lower transport cost
Local availability at cement-scale volumes is a material factor in security of supply — not a secondary consideration.
Suited to the full range of pond lining approaches.
Farm ponds, recreational fishing lakes, wildlife habitat features, residential and commercial water bodies. Our clay works across all three common lining methods.
Compacted clay liner
Fully engineered liner laid in controlled lifts. Plasticity, workability at practical moisture, and achieved permeability are the properties our clay is produced to deliver — with characterisation data to support design sign-off and regulatory compliance.
Puddle clay
Worked into position by hand or light plant. Our material's moisture conditioning makes it practical to handle and shape, while plasticity index ensures it achieves the low permeability required once placed.
Clay and geomembrane hybrid
A clay blanket layer combined with geomembrane overlay for additional security. Our characterised clay provides a stable, consistent base layer with documented permeability performance beneath the membrane.
Dams, Flood Defences and Bunds
The same hydraulic containment properties that make our clay suited to pond lining apply across a broader range of civil and environmental applications where low permeability earthworks are the design requirement.
Dams and reservoirs
Clay cores and blankets forming the primary barrier against seepage. Confirmed hydraulic conductivity in the 10⁻⁸ cm/s range, supplied with test data and consistent across supply — exactly what variable site-won clay struggles to reliably provide.
Start with your design requirements
In every case, the conversation starts with your design requirements. We put material characterisation data in front of your engineer before any supply commitment is made.
Flood defence bunds
Where bunds are designed to retain or exclude water rather than redirect surface flow. Suitable for construction where hydraulic containment is the performance requirement, with material data for engineering sign-off and regulatory compliance.
Berms and containment features
Industrial, agricultural, and environmental applications — containment of potentially contaminated water, agricultural runoff, or process liquids. Same combination of low permeability and supply consistency as our pond lining material.
A Consistent, Local Supply
For pond builders and civil contractors working across the DFW region, a locally sourced, consistently engineered clay — available at practical volumes, conditioned for immediate site use, and supported by material data — is a supply arrangement that is genuinely difficult to replicate from site-won or variable bulk sources.
Material that works. Documentation that satisfies the engineer. A supplier that delivers reliably when your project is on the ground.
