  • Effective drainage aggregate needs to do two things well: transmit water freely and hold its position under load. The combination of particle shapes addresses both. The crushed sub-angular fraction interlocks when placed and compacted, creating a structurally stable layer that resists displacement under traffic loading, backfill pressure, and ground settlement. The rounded fraction maintains a high void ratio within the aggregate matrix, ensuring water moves through efficiently rather than being impeded by tightly packed interlocking particles. A wholly angular crushed rock can compact too tightly and restrict flow; a purely rounded gravel may lack mechanical stability under sustained load. Our blend delivers both.

  • The material is processed to remove clay, silt, organic matter, and fine contaminants. Fines migration is the primary cause of aggregate drainage failure — clay and silt particles wash into void spaces between stones, progressively reducing hydraulic conductivity until the layer can no longer transmit water at the rate required. Our processing ensures the material leaves the yard clean, preserving the open void structure the aggregate depends on to function. In buried, inaccessible applications — behind retaining walls, beneath slabs, around foundations — the cost of remediation far exceeds the cost of specifying clean material from the outset.

  • Our 1" Drainage Rock works effectively in conjunction with geotextile fabric where separation from surrounding soils is needed to prevent fines ingress from the native ground. In applications where the drainage layer interfaces with fine-grained or silty soils, geotextile fabric wrapping is standard practice — it allows water to enter the drainage layer while preventing soil particles from migrating in and reducing hydraulic performance over time. The aggregate size and particle shape are compatible with standard non-woven geotextile filter fabric used in civil drainage and stormwater applications.
