Overly angular sand compacts too tightly and increases concussive load on joints. Overly rounded grains lack cohesion. Our grain profile delivers traction and impact absorption simultaneously.

What makes this product perform.

Four properties that determine arena footing safety and performance. Expand each panel for the detail.

  • The physical properties of arena sand directly affect how a surface performs under hoof. Our sand is processed to a sub-angular to sub-rounded grain shape that provides grip without being abrasive. Overly angular sand compacts too tightly, creating a hard, unforgiving surface that increases concussive load on joints, tendons, and hooves. Overly rounded grains lack cohesion, resulting in a loose, shifting footing that forces the horse to work harder and increases the risk of soft tissue strain. Our grain profile sits within the range that delivers reliable traction during acceleration, deceleration, and lateral movement while maintaining enough give to absorb impact energy — reducing fatigue and the cumulative stress that leads to injury over time.

Grip without abrasion / Impact absorption / Reduced joint stress / Safe lateral movement

  • Particle size distribution is equally important. A consistent, well-graded sand maintains its structure under repeated use without migrating or separating into hard and soft zones across the arena. Inconsistent grading is a common cause of uneven footing — areas that ride differently depending on where the horse is working. Our sand is screened to a tight specification that promotes a uniform surface, reducing the frequency of levelling and grooming required to keep the arena riding consistently from edge to edge and session to session.

Tight screened specification / No hard and soft zones / Less grooming required

  • The material is processed to remove clay, silt, organic matter, and fine contaminants. In an arena context, these impurities cause the surface to hold excessive moisture, become slippery when wet, and bake hard in dry conditions — particularly relevant in the North Texas climate where surfaces are exposed to both heavy rain and prolonged heat. A clean sand drains freely, dries predictably, and maintains a more consistent moisture balance throughout the year, reducing the management burden on the facility operator and providing a more reliable surface for the horse regardless of weather conditions.

No wet slick surface / No dry hard bake / All-weather North Texas performance

  • Our Equestrian Sand works well as a base material in fibre or rubber-blended surface systems. The grain shape and size distribution are compatible with the interlocking behaviour required when sand is combined with manufactured fibres or crumb rubber — the sand provides the structural matrix while the additives modify surface resilience and traction characteristics. If you are working with a specialist footing system installer, we can confirm gradation suitability against your specific system specification before supply.
