Common Fill
PI is the key variable in Common Fill selection. It determines moisture sensitivity, compaction behaviour, and swell-shrink risk. We carry fill across a range of PI values — match the material to the engineering requirements of your project without over-specifying.

The primary function of Common Fill is volume — providing a cost-effective, readily available material to bring a site to grade where existing ground level is insufficient or where cut-and-fill operations require imported material to achieve design formation levels. Whether the project involves building up a residential pad, levelling a commercial plot, backfilling around utilities, or raising low-lying ground ahead of paving or foundation work, Common Fill provides the bulk material needed without the cost of a more tightly specified engineered product.
Site level raising / Pad preparation / Utility backfill / Cut-and-fill programmes

Plasticity Index is the key variable in fill selection. Lower PI material behaves more granularly — less sensitive to moisture changes, easier to compact predictably, and less prone to swelling and shrinkage. This makes it preferable in applications closer to the finished surface or where dimensional stability matters, such as beneath slabs, pavements, or structural pads. Higher PI material is often acceptable at greater depth or where settlement tolerances are less demanding. We carry fill across a range of PI values so contractors can match the material to their engineering requirements without over-specifying or paying for performance they do not need.
Low PI — near surface applications / High PI — depth fill acceptable / No over-specifying
-
Common Fill is available in the volumes typically required for site preparation and earthworks — from small residential loads through to sustained supply for large-scale grading and land development projects. For contractors working on phased earthworks programmes, we can accommodate scheduled supply arrangements to match your programme rather than requiring you to hold excess material on site. For the North Texas market specifically, where native soils frequently present challenges around expansive behaviour and moisture sensitivity, having a reliable local source of fill with known PI values is a practical operational advantage.
