Where material science meets performance.

A sports surface is a performance specification. The sand beneath a volleyball court, a tournament putting green, an equestrian arena, or a ballpark infield each has a precise material requirement that determines how the surface plays, drains, ages, and whether athletes can perform on it safely. Hudson Aggregates produces high silica specification sand engineered for competitive and recreational sports applications.

Non-standard gradations via advance ordering

A bunker sand is not a volleyball sand. A horse arena is not a baseball infield.

Each surface has its own specification. We know the difference and supply accordingly.

    Volleyball Sand

Fine to medium, sub-rounded, high silica. Tightly controlled gradation within FIVB competitive spec. Under 2% fines passing 0.063mm — free-draining, no compaction into hard crust. Particle roundness selected for player comfort and consistent surface behaviour.

    Golf Top Dressing

Fine gradation centred on 0.25mm — material that works into existing turf without disrupting ball roll. Produced to USGA specification parameters. Highly consistent load to load — variation in top dressing causes visible inconsistencies across a green that no maintenance fully corrects.

    Ballpark Infield Sand

Medium-grained, sub-angular, high silica. Gradation suited to blending with clay and silt infield mix components. Drains quickly after rain, holds a true surface under compaction. Sub-angular shape supports interlock and stability. Gradations adjustable for specific blend ratios.

    Equestrian Arena Sand

Coarser, angular to sub-angular, high silica. Angular shape provides the grip and interlock equestrian surfaces require. Coarser gradation maintains drainage under concentrated hooffall loading. Compatible with fibre and rubber footing systems — we work with your installer to confirm the right gradation for your specific system and discipline.

Particle Size Distribution:
The Specification Window

The gradation curve is where surface performance is defined. These charts show the target range and specification window for each of our sports sands — the difference between a surface that plays to standard and one that does not.

The chart includes a legend, axes labels, and additional information about the soil properties such as D50, silica content, and particle shape.

Consistency is the specification.

A volleyball court or golf green that receives variable material across multiple deliveries develops surface inconsistencies no maintenance will fully correct. Our production and testing regime is oriented specifically around the load-to-load consistency that specification sports applications demand.

All sports sands are high silica. Silica particles are harder, more attrition-resistant, and more dimensionally stable. A surface built from high silica sand holds its gradation better under use and over time.

Need a non-standard gradation?

Some sports applications require gradations outside our standard range — built to architect or governing body specifications. We accommodate this through advance ordering, working with your surface designer, agronomist, or footing installer to produce material to a confirmed specification ahead of your supply window.

The earlier you bring us into the project, the more straightforward the process becomes.

A Local Supplier for a Growing Market

The DFW region supports a significant and growing number of sports and recreational facilities — from municipal parks and school athletic complexes to private equestrian centres and professional sports infrastructure. The alternative to a local, reliable supplier is a longer haul, a less responsive relationship, and less control over the material you are building your surface from.

Hudson Aggregates is here to be the supplier the sports and recreational construction sector in North Texas can actually rely on — with the technical knowledge to get the specification right, and the supply capability to deliver it.
